Targacept to increase staff over 50 percent in 2002
Winston-Salem, NC
November 15, 2001
Targacept will add 27 new employees to its staff in 2002, bringing total employment to about 80 people by year-end. Among those being recruited are administrative assistants, scientists, biostatisticians, information technology specialists and clinical research associates.
When Targacept became an independent company in August 2000, there were only 22 employees on staff. By the end of 2001, this number had more than doubled, to more than 50 people. "We’re looking for highly skilled, talented professionals to support our mission of discovering and developing new therapeutic products for neurological, psychiatric and gastrointestinal diseases," said Karen Hicks, Targacept’s manager of human resources.
After March 2002, those who join Targacept will report to work in a brand-new facility in downtown Winston-Salem. To support the company’s growth, Targacept is moving its headquarters and laboratories to One Technology Place at the Piedmont Triad Research Park in downtown Winston-Salem, where it will occupy 44,000 square feet of space on the top two floors.
