Targacept to Present at Thomas Weisel Partners Healthcare Conference

Targacept, Inc. (Nasdaq: TRGT), today announced that J. Donald deBethizy, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer, is scheduled to present at the Thomas Weisel Partners Healthcare Conference being held September 6-8, 2006 at The Four Seasons Hotel in Boston. Dr. deBethizy will present an overview of Targacept and its product development programs on Thursday, September 7 at 3:15 p.m. Eastern Time.
The Targacept presentation will be webcast and accessible from the Investor Relations section of the Company's website, http://www.targacept.com. The webcast will also be available for replay on the Company's website following the conference until October 6.
