Targacept to Present at BIO CEO & Investor Conference

Targacept, Inc. (NASDAQ: TRGT), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing a new class of drugs known as NNR Therapeutics (TM), today announced that J. Donald deBethizy, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer, is scheduled to present at the 11th Annual BIO CEO and Investor Conference at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Dr. deBethizy’s presentation will be webcast and accessible from the Investor Relations page of the Company’s website, www.targacept.com. To ensure a timely connection to the webcast, it is recommended that users register at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. The webcast will also be available for replay on the Company’s website for at least two weeks following the conference.
In addition, Dr. deBethizy will participate as a panelist on a business roundtable to be held as part of the conference entitled, "Biotech Licensing: Being Upfront about Upfront Payments." This workshop will focus on recent deals that were characterized by sizeable upfront payments and discuss how these deals were successfully forged, how the deal terms and upfront payments were calculated, and whether these deals serve as realistic benchmarks for future licensing in the industry.
