Targacept to Report Second Quarter Financial Results on August 5, 2009

Targacept, Inc. (NASDAQ: TRGT), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing a new class of drugs known as NNR Therapeutics (TM), today announced that it will report financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2009 on Wednesday, August 5, 2009, after the U.S. financial markets close.
Management will discuss the second quarter results, recent developments with regard to its product candidates TC-5214 and AZD3480, provide an update on the company's product development programs and business activities and discuss expectations for the future via conference call at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on August 5, 2009.
